Well, that's a fun number to end up with.

"She speaks Getie'an?" Janef asked.

"She worked with Tafa, Bema, and Aunt Rothan," Sray replied.

Janef sighed whistfully. "I wish I could remember Aunt Rothan."

Sray wrapped her free arm around her sister, squeezing her shoulders and pressing their heads together. "I know. There's a lot of people I wish you had the chance to know. Especially aunt Rothan. Silfiya is a little like Rothan. Not the same, but having her around felt similar. I think you'll like her."

"How long is she staying?" Janef asked.

"Just a couple days. She has her own daughter and a grandchild or two she will be returning to."

Kayrin laughed loudly. Janef and Sray were too far behind to hear what had caused it, but it was a full, enthusiastic laugh.

"She's just a couple years older than you, born towards the end of 1253. I called her Kayrin, after your mother, of course. My Kayrin was never quite so headstrong as your mother, but she does have her opinions. She didn't want to follow me to Engama. She'd already found a young man that struck her fancy and didn't want to leave him, despite everything that happened. She had lost her father and brother, I guess she didn't want to lose the other man in her life she found important.

"He is a good man, they married once she was done with her time at Domman. They are happy together. I couldn't really ask for more than that."

"Welcome, Silfiya," Teigan greeted, "I'm glad you came."

Silfiya smiled wryly. "Are you? Have you dropped your reservations?"

"I have. You are welcome any time you wish to visit."

The man had his arm pulled tight into Kallon's throat. He couldn't breathe.

They pulled the boat well onto the land, clear of the sand and into the grass and shrubs that lead into the trees.

They gathered their supplies and made their way into the forest.

"Where are we going, Kallon?"

"There's bound to be something near the coast. If we follow it we should run into someone. They do some trade with the other klamon, sailing between the countries, we're bound to find a port between here and the Anleizer river."

"What makes you think they can find them? Weren't they in the Anleizer mountains?"

"If they are like the Getier, they will have a way to talk directly across miles and miles instantly."

"How do they do that?"

"I can't explain it. I was too little, but you'll see."

"I once told your father knowing Kamenan would be useful."

"I don't want to speak for Prisha, but I know she wants to learn."

"You lot are still alive?"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Just that we assumed you all would have died off by now."

The Brehtsoln found a translator. It took some time, but eventually they allowed Kallon and Prisha to be together again. Prisha had picked up a little Getie'an, but not enough to really hold a conversation.

"I am [Brehtsoln name]. I am here to find out why you have come to Beheil."

Prisha swallowed hard and blinked up at the Brehtsoln that was standing before the door. He was tall and lean, wearing something that looked like a skirt that went just past his knees in the front and fell nearly to the ground behind him.

"What is your name?" he asked.

It sounded like a question. She thought she could separate out the individual words, but remembering the meanings when she was scared for her and Kallon's safety was something else entirely.

He frowned at her silence, his ears laying back in consideration. "How are you called?" he tried again, hoping that a slightly different word choice would spark some recognition.

Another question. What is he asking for?

"My name is [name again]," he put a hand on his white-furred chest and then pointed at her, "your name is?"

Recognition sparked in her eyes and she sat up. "My name is Prishaerra Kokhendis."
