Gag, gerbil troubles
Aug. 6th, 2004 10:32 pmSo . . . as mentioned before Vin passed away shortly after I put all the males in one cage. Kech started picking on Kintea, which is really, really bad because Kin now has bald patches and scabs forming on his hindquarters because he's been bitten and is too much of a gentleman to fight back. So I re-separated them and Kech and his littermate Ger were in the same cage and Kintea and Alek were in the other. Then, today, I find blood on the glass and observe ALEK chasing Kin around! ARRRGGGG! I CAN'T have this. I don't have the cages and I don't want aggressive animals around.
For the moment I have Kin and Ger in the same cage as they're both rather mellow. Then Alek and Kech are in the same cage, which I know is pretty rotten and not a good idea. I had to break them up once and now have a nice bite on my thumb because of it.
I know it's evil and bad, but I'm rather tempted to just drop Alek and Kech off in the wash. I released hamsters once there when I was young and stupid.
Arrrr! Maybe I should pick up a bunch of little 5 gallons or something. I dunno. Right now it looks like Alek and Kech are dealing with each other, Kech appears to have given in and realized that Alek's a bit older and stronger than he is and is squeaking submissively whenever he comes by.
*Beats head on desk.* Apparently attempting to put all the males in one cage was a bad idea to begin with. Though I have a sneaking suspiscion that Vin dying was some sort of catalyst. The patriarch of the group passed and now it's one big power struggle seeing who's top dog. Granted, I don't know if that's how gerbil society works, but it's a fair guess.
