Thought I'd post it here because it does show a bit about me and how I think. Some on things that I don't particularly talk about very often on here.
1. What are your favorite brands? Why?
Harr! I read it as "bands" . . . silly me.
Ariat- They make really comfortable and durable lace-up riding boots. My last pair took about nine months of almost daily punishment (and at that I only water-proofed them once, they would have lasted longer had I done it more often).
Oakley- I love these sun glasses. They also have a wonderful warranty (i.e. I've had one pair EATEN by my dog and the other, well, the lenses didn't survive too well when I had to bail off of that horse) and they are rather durable, especially the ones with metal frames.
. . . nothing else really.
2. Six months ago, did you have the same favorite brands, or have they changed? If they've changed, what were your old favorite brands? Why did they change?
Yes, that I did. I don't change brands very often.
3. Define the word "real."
Life. Not this frazzled, dressed-up and overly made version that the world likes to present us with, but actual LIFE, the sweat and work, the smells and sights, the simple sounds that bring one back to the simple and profound truths.
4. Think about your daily routine from when you wake up to when you go to bed. What sort of real things do you come across? Why are these things/people real?
The horses I work with are definately real. There's a connection with these animals that I can't really fully explain. Just being around them can bouy me up despite what other crap is going through my life. Riding and working with them, at those moments when it's almost as if you're melded with the horse, that is REAL, like the senses opening up for the first time. Art is also a very real thing for me. Writing as well, these two "tools" are what I use to explore both the world around me and myself. I don't really have any comment as to the reality of the people that are around me.
5. Think about entertainment (movies, music, TV, radio, magazines, etc.). Can you give us of examples (people, shows, things) in these areas of what you think is "real"?
Portions of music is real. Not all of it is cheap hash-outs of regurgitated themes that they hope will sell. The ones that show feeling and emotion, the ones that really strike a chord with the listener and aren't just passed off as simple background noise, Trans-Siberian Orchistra's song "The Dark" is one that sticks in my mind. Movies that are particularly profound and leave me thinking are rather real to me, no matter if the subject is fantastic or not. One of the more powerful movies that I've seen is, gah, thought train crashed, well, another one is "Pay it Forward."
6. Define the word "phony."
False, fluffy, something that is trying to mimick reality, but only succeeds in showing a warped imitation. Money is phony, salespeople are phony, much that pertains to computers, is phony.
7. Think about your daily routine from when you wake up to when you go to bed. What sort of phony things do you come across? Why are these things/people phony?
Quite a few things in college are phony. Well, okay, some things are. Math is probably one of the more prominant ones that I'm currently facing, that and Univ. Themes, which would seem much more real if the teacher were to actually present herself in a more firm and planted manner. Generally, things that don't pertain to myself or the improvement thereof are, in effect, "phony."
8. Think about entertainment (movies, music, TV, radio, magazines, etc.). Can you give us of examples (people, shows, things) in these areas of what you think is "phony"?
My heavens, I could go on for an eternity about the phoniness of the media. Much of it seems to just be about the hype of it all. The media would like to think that the love lives of the people in the movies or on the radio are important to us and actually pertain to how our lives are living. They want us to be involved so they can make a little bit more money in their pockets. I'm not sure who's more phony, the reporters and producers who go after the stars, or the majority of the stars themselves. It often seems that the more loud the person or group, the more phony he/she/they is/are. Take the Backstreet boys for example. They were pasted together by some manager who wanted to make a buck off of a bunch of pretty boys who could sing and dance, now how do I know of them even in my best efforts to avoid such things as boy bands? Because they are/were EVERYWHERE. The media did their best to plaster them all over the continent, even the world, and get them in our heads just so we'd go out and buy tickets or CD's, or whatever other merchandise they cooked up for the teenage populace to take part in.
. . . I think I'm getting off topic.
9. How important is it to you to fit in with a certain crowd? Would you rather fit in or stand out in a group of people?
I tend to steer clear of crowds. I may want to get to know a particular person, but when it comes to things such as crowds and groups, I generally don't bother. Sometimes it happens that the crowd just kinda molds in around me due to knowing one person within it, but I don't intentionally go out and seek a place in a group of people. I don't try to stand out, and I don't really try to fit in, I'm just . . . there really. Of course, some would say that I stand out, others that I fit in, but I don't really attempt to accomplish either, if I'm in a group I'm there because I like the people in it, if I don't, well, I'm not there.
10. What does the word community mean to you? Do you feel like you belong to any communities? Do you feel excluded from any communities? If so, how does this make you feel? Why?
Community, it's larger than a group, it's a group of a group of people, if that makes any sense. A melting pot of ideas and thoughts, a mergance of views and feelings of a whole smattering of people across the scale. Do I belong to one? I'd have to say both yes and no. I'm not sure if one would consider the Foxxis project a great community, but it's probably the closest thing I have to one that I actually feel like I have a place in. In other communities I feel more like the odd voice that appears once in a blue moon to make the occational comment. Don't really feel excluded from any as I don't really feel a NEED to belong to any.
11. Do you ever feel the need to escape from your daily life? If so, how and why? What would you do to escape?
Yes, either by reverting into myself and scratching at the corners of my soul, or by getting OUT. By leaving the city behind and loosing myself in nature and the sensations it brings. Basically, I do it for the need to reconnect with myself and my own reality. To reconfirm what is real within my mind that get so filled with fluff and frills for me to stand. In asking that, are you questioning what extremes I would go to? I'm not sure, it would depend on the need. Many times the escape comes through art or writing, often, when paper is lacking, I just flee into the recesses of my own mind and play out various scenes that come to mind, be they real or fantasy.
GAH! *twitch.* My entire right leg is asleep and tingling!
Need to finish myth paper . . . so close . . . less than a page. GAH! LEG SLEEP TINGLY TWITCHY!
