Kya is dead.
I was wondering about here Sunday and this morning as she was acting a little listless. She was missing a hind foot and the toes off the other, but I don't think that happened until after she died as Vin showed zero agression towards her Saturday and Sunday save for possibly being a little zealous in breeding persuits. I'm thinking it may have been my use of cedar bedding, but it was only for a week, how could a week have such adverse affects on the lungs? (On a note, both Cedar and Pine wood chips, I've learned, are not good for young gerbils.)
Lance actually pointed out that she was dead as I hadn't had the chance to look in the cage. He could have been more sesitive about it. Crymedy, thinking of it, this is the second time he's responded like that. Back in 5th or 6th grade I'd found a curved bill thrasher baby and attempted to raise it. I came home from school one day and Lance and one of his friends were goofing in the front yard. He came up to me laughing, laughing and told me my bird had died. Same basic response today. "Uh, Cori. You're gerbil's dead," and then laughed about it, pointing that I was more at fault for her death than he was for the death of his gerbil (which, I might add, died of starvation, not a possibly pre-existing condition, a year after he got it).
As it's under Petsmart's guarantee (14 days) I'll weasel some time to take her back tomorrow. And, yes I'll be picking up another, though I think I'll make the introductory time 10 days and switch them back and forth each night before letting them meet. When I introduced Kya they remained in their own sides and didn't have as much time to get used to each other's scents.
Yeah . . . there's a bummer end of a day.
Need to meet Chris at 12.00 so he can set me up on the ward's website and such. Need to take Kya back and get a new gerbil, and need to finish my portfolio for Drawing 1 along with the last two homework assignments for CRE101 as I fluffed out on the Ch 3 assignment and the Ch 4 assignment will be due tomorrow night. Thank heavens for the rain, tomorrow will be a short day at work.

Date: 2004-02-23 11:39 pm (UTC)Kasan has cedar, but just a small bit of it. he tore up a lot of cardboard boxes (ceral boxes) and put teh little scraps in with it and mixed it up, and it makes it easier for them to burrow in, even if it does look a litte ghetto.
