Massively large update of doom.
Apr. 11th, 2004 12:35 amNow for what I remember of the past week that I didn't get the chance to write earlier.
Monday:
I'd just gotten out of my car to go to institute and spied Mus stepping into the parking lot. I called after her twice, but only recieved some rather odd looks from another person who happened to be walking to her car. I might have shruggd it off, but I haven't talked to Mus in a while so I followed her.
Surprisingly stealthy in flip-flops I stalked up behind her. The ground was eaten up quickly by what could best be described as an extended trot as I feared that the effect would be ruined by her turning around. I contemplated doing the typical "BOO!" or poke, but instead, eased right up beside her and said "What's up?"
The reaction was priceless. Her eyes widened, she shrieked, jumped some foot or two away, looked, and shrieked again. This sent me into spazzmatic fits of laughter and I was admonished not to repeat such actions.
Chitted for a bit, found out that she's no longer with Erik, whom, in the past two months, she's broken up with on four different occations. I only met the guy passingly, but he seemed alright *shrug.* I'm just rather out of the loop when it comes to dating in general.
Tuesday we started a sustained portrait in Life drawing. We had two class periods to finish it in. I think it turned out pretty good. I need to break out my camera tomorrow or somesuch and photograph a bunch of the stuff I've done in class. Or, rather, I should break it out after the semester's over when I'll actually have time. Ah yes, and I have a five week Bio course in June, hurra. At least it'll be the end of my required/core classes.
Wednesday and Thursday my stuff from B&H arrived. Yay! I filed up about five of the negative sheets, but I have a LONG way to go before I'm anywhere near done. I'm rather happy as I now have a strap for my Mamiya RB67 and don't have to be so paranoid about possibly dropping the thing. It's rather heavy, about 7lbs WITHOUT the lenses or anything on it.
Two of Judy's old friends dropped by on Thursday. One of them lives in Washington and has a ArabxSaddlebred. She says she rides like a Saddlebred, but has the attitude of an Arab.
. . . I just caught a fly . . . and then it got away. It's sitting on my monitor . . . grr. Continuing on.
So she lives in Washington and also happens to be on the coast. Which means that she rides on the beach. I'd really love to do that some day. I can just imagine Kash seeing the ocean for the first time. Nostrils flared to their utmost, ears perked so extremely that the tips brush against each other. Feet lifted well off the ground and tail up and almost curled over his rump. Bwah. Gorgeous boy.
I started reading Emma this week. It has thusfar proven to be rather entertaining, even if the language can be a little hard to follow at times. I watched the movie tonight and was very much amused. For any curious of the basic plot for both book and film, the movie Clueless lifted it's plot directly from the pages of the book. Yet another modernized classic.
Friday was rather entertaining. Matt and I were supposed to meet the Missionaries around 1.00. Didn't leave until two 'til, which is very much not enough time as it's a good 25 minutes (as the Cori drives) away. We ended up being just shy of a half hour late and it turns out that the missionaries didn't even make it to the house. Gwar. Nevertheless Sis. Allen was very hospitable and welcomed us rather warmly. She had her daughters (and daughter-in-law) present as well as some 12 or more grandchildren who were rampaging about. They'd just finished dyeing easter eggs and were attempting to feed the mass of youngsters lunch. We stood and chittered, and played a game of pool before hitching off. Ah yes, I won the pool game.
After that I was going to go riding with Shilo. The plan was to get the trailer and take Kash up to Shilo's and ride up the canal trail near her place. This did not pan out. First Cody's truck was blocking the gate. Now this wouldn't have been bad had Cody actually been there, but he wasn't. It also wouldn't have been so bad had I been able to get a hold of him, or, rather, the truck worked as it was very much dead at the time I wished it out of my way.
So I called up Shilo and asked if she'd mind driving down to Judy's instead and just riding one of her horses or Kash. She was cool with that so I gave her directions. Really. Bad. Directions. I said South instead of North, and Left instead of right. Actually, I gave her directions as if she were coming in from Alma School instead of Country Club and had the directions flipped. Usually I'm rather good at directions, but Friday my mind was rather well and screwed up. I blame it on driving on Rittenhouse. That road always muddies my sense of direction. She managed to make it despite my horrible directions (she had her memory to thank more than my instructions).
She ended up riding Nikki, who, I must say, did VERY well. I was rather proud of the filly as she did what Shilo asked without a single tantrum or test of wills. She kicked out once, but it was more because Shilo was using an entirely different set of cues to get her into the canter than she is used to. After that, though, she was angelic. It's very satisfying when you can see a year's worth of hard work pay off like that. I am very much pleased with how she did.
Kash was a bit goofy as usual. He just doesn't want to ride on the outside and wants to cut in. Despite that, if there's one thing to be said about it, he does listen. He's more than willing to do what he's told, though he might resist a little on turning, he'll do it without any appearance of annoyance or bad tempter. He's also really easy to get going. In the pasture if asked after initially going into the canter he'll pick right up into a hand gallop (I believe that's what it's called), and just eat up the ground. I wish I could take him out more often and really turn him loose. Even after the good hour or somesuch that we rode them Kash was still a bit spazzy and more than happy to get going and move. Arabs and their endurance, it's amazing.
Y'know. Having to do all this evil data entry crudget for my taxes isn't ALL that bad. It's almost enjoyable once the ball gets rolling. As of now I have up to August first completely inputed and reconciled It actually didn't take me very long once I got the ball rolling. Only four more months to go, I should have it done tomorrow . . . or later today, depending on your view, but it was yesterday (today?) when I started this post. No, I'm not a slow typer, it's just that I've been taking intermissions to attempt to catch that fly again.
Ah yes, gerbils! I finally got the babies sexed. Two males and four females. I was hoping for three and three, but that's alright, two and for is good. I'm keeping one of the males and one of the females as after the pups are four or five weeks I'm going to separate Vin and Tser since Mom and Dad really don't want me to have a mass load of rodents running around. I'm guessing that I might have one more litter, but y' never know. The pups are insanely cute, though. They haven't opened their eyes yet, but they're running all over the place. It's rather humerous watching Tser run after them and try to pick them up and carry them back to the nest.
Sleep, right!
