Equines and more
Jun. 7th, 2004 10:54 pmSo worked with horses today, per usual. Switched Nikki over to the bit I've been using on Kash as the one I picked up in Utah (Judy thinks) is pinching her mouth on the sides (though I'm yet to find marks). Worked Kash a hard 40 minutes, I was planning on only working him 30, but y'know, time flies and I spent some time just walking him while talking to Shilo about random things.
After work I hit Tom's and picked up a new bit plus a lead (Kash eats them, literally), as well as some more horse treats and . . . ah yes, I remember, a roping rein.
I think next month I'll pick up a bareback pad. I'd actually like to get up into the canter more riding bareback, but the motion of the canter tends to leave one rubbing the fur on the horse's back the wrong way as you follow through with the forward motion. Either that or my seat's not quite good enough yet to stay glued to his back, which is entirely possible (though, I have to admit, my seat on a horse, western, english, or bareback is pretty dain good compared to where I was last year.
I need to figure out if my saddle's a 14" or 15" as I'm looking at picking up a new one and mine's slightly cramped, not too much, mind you, but just slightly, I'm riding up on the cantle (back side) more than I'd like. I got the thing when I was twelve or somesuch so I might have actually gone for a 14" seat rather than a 15", but I'm still not sure. going to have to get a measuring tape and check.
Also dropped off my man-from-snowy-river-coat at Shilo's for her to use on the pioneer trek thing she'll be participating in this week. It shall be sad, I have no riding partner for Friday. But, at least Bro. Allen has given me permission to drop by and work his two colts (being specific, I think they're geldings). They're both three and greenbroke, much fun *grin.*
Tomorrow Mom, Cody, and I will be dragging out Nikki, Glori, and Thunder. I think. We may take Spirit instead, but I'm not sure. I'll have to ride Kash after we're done as I don't want him to be left out or anything and he needs to build some more muscle up in his forequarters, though he's nowhere near as skinny as he was when I first got him, his hindquarters have just filled out much quicker and bulked up more than his shoulders. He still moves like a dream and will go at a mere touch. Love my boy.
Things to do tomorrow:
Work on Church calling
work on Garth picture

Date: 2004-06-08 07:36 am (UTC)No, really! Spray down Kash's back [he'll prolly like it if it is as warm there as it is here] then try riding him bareback. You'll stick to him better 'cause the watery goodness will soak your jeans, and GOD KNOWS jeans are less than slick when wet! :)
That and it is just fun to hose down and go riding in the summer. :P
