Darn light
Aug. 29th, 2006 05:36 amWhen did it start being dark at 5.20? I no longer have bright daylight when I got out to feed the horses in the morning. Drat. That's okay, though, because it means that "winter" is coming and Arizona's prime riding season has begun! Or will begin.
Yesterday morning it was nice and cool when I fed the horses. It was a shock at first, and then I started to revel in it. Of course, by the time I finished my lesson it was muggy and I was sweating profusely. Dain weather, teasing me. It's supposed to be 107 today (40+ Grad, I believe).
School is going well thusfar. I need to watch my time better, though as I managed to be seven minutes late to my first class. I blame road construction and the fire truck that kept the light red for an irritating amount of time. Of course, it was headed to the school where someone had munched or gotten munched while making a left-hand turn.
Today is 2-D, which means more stippling. I'm hoping to be able to move fairly quickly. I managed to get the "outline" done during the last class and started shading a bit. I'm not a huge stippling fan as far as doing it goes, but I applaud anyone's effort as it is horribly time-consuming.
Ah yes, the other week Chris and I decided to measure all of the horses, height-wise. The numbers are as follows:
Dakota: 15.1 hh
Chewy: 13.1 hh
Kash: 15 hh
Kachina: 15.1 hh
Toby: 16 hh
My heavens, Kash is 15 hands! I've been selling my poor boy short. I always thought he was 14.2 or 14.3. Fifteen hands! That's "big" for an Arab. Heck, it's good-sized or average for most breeds.
Anyway, Saturday Chris, Marty, Dave, and I wandered up to Wittman to look at a horse. She was a large (in height and girth ... hrr) palomino QH mare. Very well-mannered and pretty light on her cues, especially for the canter. Very willing and a nice personality. She's also that dark shade of palomino that's slightly metallic, like a newly minted penny, as it should be. Dave and Marty put money down on her and we'll be picking her up this Saturday.
I think once she gets here I'll lug out my camera and take some new pictures of all the horses. I haven't really taken any since we purchased Chewy in March.
By the way, Chewy's doing fantastic. Worked her Saturday evening and she started lessons again yesterday. Such a good little mare. I need to get some time gathered and start working on her canter. She will pick it up, but it takes a lot to get it. I think after she has a little work on it and getting herself together she'll pick it up as easy as the trot.
